How to Safe-Keep Your Passwords

You're here > Give Me Money > How to Safe-Keep Your Passwords

Before, I was keeping all my user names and passwords in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.  When I found the free OpenOffice.org home and office software and downloaded it to my computer C: hard drive, I converted the user names/passwords file to OpenOffice Spreadsheet file.

And then, I stored both the Excel and Spreadsheet versions of my file in my computer C: hard drive.  I realized that all my user names and password may be stolen by malwares while I am connected to the Internet.

To safe-keep all my user names and passwords, I did the following steps:

1.  I downloaded the free OpenOffice.org packaged software that includes the Spreadsheet (similar to Microsoft Excel) to my computer C: hard drive.

2.  I converted the Excel file (containing my user names and passwords) to OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet file (see a sample below).  To convert the file, I just retrieved the Excel file and opened the file in the OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet.  No changes and actions were done with the Spreadsheet file.

3.  I saved the Spreadsheet file to my Toshiba USB (which stands for Universal Serial Bus and designated as F: drive) (see a sample below), which is inserted to a small slot in front of my computer C: hard drive.

4.  When I displayed my Spreadsheet user names and passwords on my computer screen, I clicked on the OpenOffice.org icon on my desktop screen > clicked on the Spreadsheet button > File > Open > Computer > F: drive > and clicked on my Passwords file (containing my user names and passwords).

5.  If I wanted to visit for example, Google.com, I clicked on the Passwords tab below the screen > clicked on my mouse to copy my user name > switched to Google.com tab > pasted my user name on the Google's User Name box > switched again to my Passwords tab > clicked on my mouse to copy my password > switched again to Google.com tab > pasted my password on the Google's Password box to bring me to my Google account web page.

I do not have to type and re-type my user name and password for each website I visited.

6.  If I wanted to add, delete or change a user name and/or a password, I just went to my OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet file to update it and then saved the updated file to my USB in the F: drive.

7.  When I left the house, I kept the USB containing my user names and passwords in a filing cabinet with lock and key.

Last Words

I feel secured when I know that all my user names and passwords are not in my computer C: drive.

Do you have comments or opinions if I am doing the right and safe thing in protecting my user names and passwords?  If not, please sent them to me by using the Comments box below.  I hope that I was able to give you a bit of idea.  Thanks
